Ryan Dominic Bertrand is an English professional footballer playing at left-back for Premier League club Southampton and the England national team. Born in Southwark, London, Bertrand started his youth career at Gillingham, before signing with Chelsea in July 2005. He graduated from the Chelsea Youth System and was loaned to several other clubs between 2006 and 2010. He made his official Chelsea debut on April 20, 2011, six years after joining them, against Birmingham City. During the 2011–12 season, Bertrand signed a new four-year contract with Chelsea and was voiced by Ashley Cole, whom he described as a "great role model". On May 19, 2012, Bertrand became the first player to make his Champions League debut in the final, starting an anonymous left-wing position against Cole; Chelsea beat Bayern Munich 4–3 on penalties. He has had many trophies with Chelsea, including those in the FA Cup, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Champions League.
