Aaron Ekblad is a professional Canadian ice hockey defender and replacement captain of the Florida Panthers in the National Hockey League. Ekblad was selected first in Draft Ontario Hockey League 2011, and first picked by Florida Panthers in Draft NHL 2014. NHL, Ekblad was selected for the 2015 NHL All-Star Game and won the Calder Memorial. The Trophy was the league of the top rookie league of the 2014-15 season. Prior to joining the NHL, Ekblad played principal hockey for the Barrie Colts team of the Ontario Hockey Federation. He was unanimously awarded "Player of the Year" status by Hockey Canada, allowing him to play as a teenager a year earlier.
