Northern Irish defender who made his professional debut in 1997 for Newcastle United and his international debut for Northern Ireland's national team in 1998.

Aaron William Hughes is a former professional football player from Northern Ireland who played as a defender. Hughes played primarily at center-back, but was also used as a right-back or left-back, as well as anywhere in midfield. He is known for his disciplined defense, having made 455 Premier League appearances without being sent off, it was the second most important game in league history, behind only Ryan Giggs. He started his career with Newcastle United, made his debut in 1997 and played 279 club games in all competitions. He stayed with the club until 2005 when he was transferred to Aston Villa for £ 1 million, and two years later he was signed by former international coach Lawrie Sanchez to play for Fulham. He spent six and a half seasons at Fulham, reaching the final UEFA Europa League 2010 .
