Adriana Barraza is a Mexican actress, teacher and director. In 1999, director Alejandro González Iñárritu chose her as the mother of Gael García Bernal's character in Amores perros, nominated for the Oscar for best foreign language film. In 2006, she again collaborated with Iñárritu on Babel, for which she received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Barraza is known in Mexico as Master Barraza thanks to its partnership with Mexican director Sergio Jiménez, better known as El Profe. They created the actors' workshop in Mexico City, teaching and developing their own version of the interim method. Barraza started her career directing episodes of telenovela, the actors she will also train. In the 1990s, she decided to go on camera. She currently runs her own drama school located in Miami, Florida called Adriana Barraza's Black Box. The school's instructors include her husband Arnaldo and daughter Carolina.
