Former American attorney who currently serves as Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission in the United States. He is well known for advocating for the removal of net neutrality in the United States. He has also worked for the Department of Justice, the United States Senate, and the Federal Communications Commission's Office of General Counsel.

Ajit Varadaraj Pai is an American lawyer who served as President of the US Federal Communications Commission from 2017 to 2021. As the son of Indian immigrants to the United States, Pai grew up in Parsons, Kansas. He studied social sciences at Harvard University, then earned a law degree at the University of Chicago Law School. He has worked as a lawyer at various offices of the US Department of Justice and the US Senate Judiciary Committee, for two years as an internal consultant to Verizon Communications. He joined the FCC as a lawyer in its general advisory office in 2007. He was appointed a commissioner in 2011 by President Barack Obama, who continued the tradition by upholding the balance on the committee by accepting the recommendation of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. He was unanimously confirmed by the US Senate on May 7, 2012 and sworn in on May 14, 2012 for a term of 5 years.
