Alan Irwin Menken is an American composer, songwriter, conductor, music director and record producer. Menken is best known for the tracks and songs from films produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. His sheet music and songs for The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and Pocahontas have each won him two Oscars. He has also composed tracks and songs for Little Shop of Horrors, Newsies, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Home on the Range, Enchanted and Tangled, among others. Its awards include eight Oscars, one Tony, eleven Grammy Awards, seven Golden Globe Awards, and an Emmy Day Award. He is also known for his work in musical theater for Broadway and elsewhere. Some of them are based on his Disney films, but other theatrical hits include Little Shop of Horrors, A Christmas Carol, and Sister Act. Menken has collaborated with lyricists such as Lynn Ahrens, Howard Ashman, Jack Feldman, Tim Rice, Glenn Slater, Stephen Schwartz and David Zippel.
