Alan Moore is an English writer best known for his comic book works like Watchmen, V for Vendetta, The Ballad of Halo Jones, Swamp Thing, Batman: The Killing Joke and From Hell. Considered by some to be the best English comic book author, he is widely recognized among his peers and critics. He used occasional pseudonyms such as Curt Vile, Jill de Ray, and Translucia Baboon; Additionally, reprints of some of his works were credited to The Original Writer when Moore requested that his name be removed. Moore began writing for underground and alternative British fanzines in the late 1970s before achieving success publishing comics in magazines such as 2000 AD and Warrior. He was then selected by DC Comics as "the first comic book author living in the UK to do prominent work in the US", where he worked on main characters like Batman and Superman, developing in such a way significant character Swamp Thing, and writing the original titles as Guard.
