Alan Shearer CBE DL is a retired soccer professional and English football player who plays in the striker position. Widely regarded as one of the best strikers of his generation and one of the greatest in Premier League history, he is the Premier League's top scorer. He was named the Football Writers' Association's Player of the Year in 1994 and won the PFA Player of the Year award in 1995. In 1996, he was third in the FIFA World Player and Golden Ball awards. In 2004, Pelé was named in the FIFA 100 list of the world's greatest surviving players. Shearer played his entire career at the highest level of English football. He started his career at Southampton in 1988 before joining Blackburn Rovers in 1992, where he established himself as one of Europe's top goal scorers. At Blackburn, he won the 1994-1995 Premier League title, as well as two consecutive Premier League golden boots.
