Aleksandar Vučić is a Serbian politician who has held the presidency of Serbia since 2017 and has been chairman of the Serbian Populist Progress Party since 2012. Vučić was Prime Minister of Serbia for two terms, from 2014 to 2016 and from 2016 to 2017, as well as Deputy Prime Minister from 2012 to 2014. In addition, Vučić was a member of the Serbian Parliament, Minister of Information from from 1998 to 2000, then Minister of Defense from 2012 to 2013. In April 2017, Vučić was elected president with more than 55% of the votes in the first round, thus avoiding the second round. He officially took office on May 31, 2017, succeeding Tomislav Nikolić. Its inauguration took place on June 23, 2017. As Minister of Information under the Slobodan Milošević administration, he introduced limited measures against journalists, especially during the Kosovo war.
