Amanda Marie Knox is an American who spent almost four years in prison in Italy after being convicted of the 2007 murder of Meredith Kercher, a student sharing her apartment. In 2015, Knox was acquitted by the Supreme Court of Directors of Italy. Knox, 20 at the time of the murder, called the police after returning to her apartment and Kercher after a night out with her boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, and found Kercher's bedroom door was locked and he there was blood in the bathroom. In subsequent police interrogations, the behavior of which was controversial, Knox allegedly implicated herself and her employer, Patrick Lumumba, in the murder. Initially, Knox, Sollecito, and Lumumba were all arrested for Kercher's murder, but Lumumba was quickly released. During the first trial, Knox and Sollecito were found guilty and sentenced to 26 and 25 years respectively.
