Amélie Simone Mauresmo is a retired French professional tennis player and former No. 1 in the world. Mauresmo won two single Grand Slam titles, at the Australian Open and Wimbledon, and also won a single silver medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Mauresmo reached first place on September 13, 2004, keeping it in five weeks on this occasion. She is the world number 15 in women's tennis since the start of the computer ranking. She is known for her powerful one-handed backhand shots and good net play. She officially announced her retirement from professional tennis on December 3, 2009, ending a fifteen-year career.
