Amy Poehler is an American actress, comedian, writer, producer and director. After studying improvisation at Chicago's Second City and ImprovOlympic in the early 1990s, she co-founded the Upright Citizens Brigade impromptu comedy group. The group moved to New York in 1996 where their number became a half-hour sketch series on Comedy Central in 1998. Together with the other members of the comedy group, Poehler was one of the founders of Upright. Citizens Brigade Theater. In 2001, she joined the cast of NBC's Saturday Night Live sketch series. She co-hosted SNL Weekend Update in 2004 until she left the show in 2008 to play the role of Leslie Knope on the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation. She has also acted in the films Shrek the Third, Horton Hears a Who!, Inside Out and the series The Mighty B!, Which she has also created.
