In the 1990s and early 2000s, he was a popular Indonesian solo artist. He has almost a half-dozen successful solo albums under his belt, as well as multiple duet records with his ex-wife Krisdayanti. In 2007, he also became a judge on Indonesian Idol.

Following his musical career, he began a career in politics, joining the House of Representatives in Indonesia in 2014.

Anang Hermansyah before fame

He was a part of a local music group in high school. He proceeded to study music in college at the Islamic University of Bandung. He then established the band Kidnap in 1989. He finally released his first solo album, Biarkanlah, in 1992.
