She is a singer-songwriter who was noticed thanks to her YouTube covers. She is known for her bouffant and red-stained lips. Her version of Eminem's famous song "Lose Yourself" became an internet sensation. Warner Bros. Records eventually signed her.

Cassandra Monique Batie, known by her stage name Andra Day, is an American singer, songwriter and actress. In 2015, she released her debut album, Cheers to the Fall. At the 2016 Grammy Awards, the album was nominated for Best R&B Album and single, "Rise Up", was nominated for Best R&B Performance. To promote "Rise Up," she performed the song on The View, which earned her an Emmy Day Award nomination. Day also appeared with Stevie Wonder, who was credited in part for her discovery, in an Apple TV commercial in late 2015. In 2021, she played the role of Billie Holiday in the biopic The United States vs. The United States. Billie Holiday, for which she won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a TV Series and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress. Her stage name was inspired by Holiday, nicknamed "Lady Day".
