Entrepreneur who started Manhattan Prep, an educational prep company, and Venture for America, a nonprofit fellowship program. He launched his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020 in 2017.
Andrew M. Yang is an American businessman, politician, political commentator, philanthropist and author. Originally a lawyer, Yang began working in startups and early career development companies as a founder or executive between 2000 and 2009. In 2011, he founded Venture for America, a nonprofit focused on job creation in cities struggling to recover from the Great Depression. He ran in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary and is running as a Democrat in the 2021 New York mayoral election. The son of immigrants from the Radio Loan, Yang was born and raised in New York State. He attended Brown University and later Columbia Law School. Dissatisfied with his job as a lawyer, Yang started working for startups during the dot-com bubble before spending a decade as chief executive at Manhattan Prep. In 2011, Yang founded VFA, which recruits the best college graduates into two-year graduate programs at startups in developing cities in the United States.
