Anier Octavio García Ortiz is a Cuban track and field runner who won the 110-meter hurdles at the 2000 Summer Olympics. Born in Santiago de Cuba, Anier García quickly built his title by winning the Inter-American Youth Championship in 1995 The following year, at the 1996 Summer Olympics, García was eliminated in the quarterfinals. In 1997, García entered the international arena by winning 60 meters over the barrier at the 1997 World Indoor Championships in Paris. At the World Championship in Athens, he played with a leg injury, and although second in the quarter-finals, he withdrew from the semi-finals. In 1999, García won the Pan American Games, but was beaten second by Colin Jackson at the world championship. The highlight of García's career was at the Sydney Olympics in 2000. The Olympic final is expected to be a close competition between the top five hurdles, but García won the gold in a sense easily, beating Terrence Trammell 0 , 16 seconds.
