Anthony McLeod Kennedy is a retired United States attorney and attorney who served as Deputy Attorney General of the United States Supreme Court from 1988 until his retirement in 2018. He was appointed by President Ronald Reagan for a court ruling in 1987 and was sworn in in February. 18, 1988. After Sandra Day O'Connor retired in 2006, he was a loyal voter on several of Roberts Court's 5–4 decisions. Born in Sacramento, California, Kennedy returned to his father's legal practice in Sacramento after graduating from Harvard Law School. In 1975, President Gerald Ford appointed Kennedy to the US Court of Appeals for Track 9. In November 1987, after two unsuccessful attempts to appoint Deputy Justice Lewis F. Powell Jr's successor ., President Reagan appointed Kennedy to the Supreme Court. Kennedy was unanimously endorsed by the US Senate in February 1988
