Emmanuel Gazmey Santiago, known by his stage name Anuel AA, is a Puerto Rican rapper and singer. He is considered a pioneer of the Latin Trap movement and his lyrics often refer to crime and city life in Puerto Rico. His music often contained sample songs and two famous songs of his youth. He is considered a controversial figure in Latin music because of legal issues and feud with Puerto Rican rappers Cosculluela and Ivy Queen and with American rapper 6ix9ine. Raised in Carolina, Puerto Rico, he began recording music at the age of fourteen and began publishing online four years later in 2010, before signing with the Latin division of the American rapper's Maybach band. Rick Ross. His 2016 Mixtape Real Hasta la Muerte was well received, but his success was suspended that same year by a 30-month prison sentence for possession of an illegal gun in Puerto Rico.

Anuel AA before fame

As a child, he was a classmate of fellow urban artist Rauw Alejandro at Colegio Mara Auxiliadora. He started uploading songs to Sound Cloud about a year before his album came out, and he currently has over 20,000 followers.
