He is a DJ and music producer that specializes in electronic, intelligent dance music (IDM), and ambient music. Aphex Twin was his stage name, and he was born Richard David James.
Richard David James, known by his stage name Aphex Twin, is an English musician, composer and DJ. He was known for his signature electronic music such as techno and ambient music in the 1990s, and was also associated with a line of electronic music called smart dance music, though James turned it down. In 2001, Guardian reporter Paul Lester called James "the most inventive and influential figure in contemporary electronic music". Growing up in Cornwall, James began performing as an avid DJ at local clubs and independent parties in the late 1980s. In 1991 his first EP Analogue Bubblebath was released. On Mighty Force, a local independent record label, has won her praise and admiration. James co-founded the independent label Rephlex Records the same year. He garnered more praise with his 1992 debut album Selected Ambient Works 85–92, released by Belgian label Apollo.
