As a member of the Chicago Bulls and the San Antonio Spurs, he was a six-time NBA All-Star.

Artis Gilmore is a former professional basketball player from America, who played in the American Basketball Association and the National Basketball Association. Gilmore was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on August 12, 2011. As a star center during his two years at the University of Jacksonville, Gilmore led the Dolphins to the NCAA Division Championship. I was in 1970, where his team were beaten 80–69 by UCLA Bruins. Gilmore remains the rebound-per-game leader in NCAA Division I basketball history. Gilmore followed five All-Star seasons with ABA Kentucky Colonels becoming number 1 choice in the ABA Dispersal Draft competition in 1976, a tournament that dispersed players from ABA clubs, such as Colonels, who were not Join the NBA. During his career, Gilmore has won the All-Star, ABA Rookie of the Year and ABA MVP 11 times. Nicknamed "The A-Train", Gilmore's 7ft 2 has played 670 consecutive matches.
