Ayanna Soyini Pressley is an American politician who has held the title of United States Representative for Massachusetts' 7th Electoral District since 2019. Her county includes the northern three-quarters of Boston, much of Cambridge and other parts of Milton, just like Chelsea, Everett, Randolph and Somerville. A Democrat, Pressley, defeated Mike Capuano, who held ten terms in the primary elections and was not a general election candidate. She was previously elected a major member of the Boston City Council in 2010. Pressley was the first black woman to be elected to Boston City Council and the first black woman to be elected to Congress from Massachusetts.
