Benjamin Solomon Carson Sr. is a retired American neurosurgeon, author and politician who served as the 17th US Minister of Housing and Urban Development from 2017 to 2021. He was a presidential candidate. United States in the 2016 Republican primary election. He is considered a pioneer in the field of neurosurgery. Carson became director of pediatric neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Children's Center in 1984 at age 33; he is the youngest pediatric neurosurgery chief in the United States. When he retired, he was a professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery and pediatrics at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Carson's record includes participating in the first reported cleavage of Siamese twins joined at the back of the head. Despite the successful surgery, the twins continue to experience neurological / medical complications.
