Elizabeth Copeland, known professionally as Beth Phoenix, is an American professional wrestling commentator, professional wrestler, and retired amateur wrestler. She is currently under contract with WWE and works as a color commentator for the NXT brand. As a wrestler, she is a former WWE Divas Champion and three-time WWE Champion. Kociański had a successful amateur wrestling career in high school, winning several tournaments before being trained for professional wrestling by All Knighters. After her debut in May 2001, she fought for many independent promotions. She also appeared on the Shimmer Women's opening show. In 2004, she started working for Ohio Valley Wrestling and signed a development contract with WWE in October 2005. She debuted on the WWE Raw franchise in May 2006 but suffered a legal fracture of the jaw the following month. As a result, she underwent multiple surgeries and returned to OVW for more training.
