Bethany Meilani Hamilton is an American professional surfer who survived a shark attack in 2003 in which her left arm was bitten and finally returned to professional surfing. She wrote about her experiences in her 2004 autobiography Soul Surfer: A True Tale of Faith, Family, and Fighting back to Board. In April 2011, the movie Soul Surfer was released. She also has a 2019 movie, Unstoppable, where she shows her family's struggles and happiness.
