He is known for HBO's Real Time political talk show with Bill Maher and a similar late-night show called Polially Incorrect, initially Comedy Central and later ABC. Maher is known for her work in political satire and social political commentary. He focused on a wide range of topics including religion, political correctness and the media. His critiques of religion formed the basis of his 2008 documentary, Religion. He is an animal rights advocate, has served on the board of directors of PETA since 1997 and is a member of the advisory board of Project Reason.
