Brian Randolph Greene is an American theoretical physicist, mathematician and string theorist. Greene was professor of physics at Cornell University from 1990 to 1995, and professor at Columbia University since 1996 and president of the World Science Festival since its co-founding in 2008. Greene has studied mirror symmetry research, involving two different Calabi - Yau varieties. He also described the flop transition, a kind of slight change in topology, showing that the topology of string theory can change at the same time. Greene has been known to many audiences through his public books, The Elegant Universe, Time-Bounding Icarus, Cosmic Texture, Hidden Reality, and related PBS TV specials. He has also appeared in The Big Bang Theory "The Germination of the Herb Garden", as well as in the films Frequency and The Last Mimzy.
