Martin Brian Mulroney is a retired Canadian politician who served as Canada's 18th Prime Minister from September 17, 1984 to June 25, 1993. His tenure as Prime Minister was marked by the introduction of major economic reforms, such as the Canada-States -United. Free Trade Agreement and Goods and Services Tax. The Mulroney government also privatized 23 of 61 crown corporations, including Air Canada and Petro Canada, as well as the Floor Connaught Laboratory, now part of Sanofi. Prior to his political career, he was a prominent lawyer and businessman in Montreal. He then ran for the Radical Conservative Party and won the 1984 Canadian Federal Election, defeating John Turner of the Liberal Party and Ed Broadbent of the NDP, not only winning all the provinces and territories which also won over 50 % of the vote for the first since 1958 and increased his party's seats from 111 to 211, the largest number of seats won by a party in Canadian history.
