James Chadwick Pennington is a former American football midfielder who played for the National Football Federation for 11 seasons, primarily with the New York Jets. He played college football at Marshall University and was selected by the Jets to enter the first round of the 2000 NFL Draft. After eight seasons with the Jets, he was a member of the Miami Dolphins for his last three. Pennington is the only player to have twice won the AP NFL Player of the Year award, receiving the honor in 2006 and 2008. He was also the only outside full-back for Tom Brady to lead his team to the AFC East Championship from 2002 to 2019, doing so with 2002 Jets and 2008 Dolphins. At the time of retirement, Pennington was in the lead. in terms of career completion rate at 66.0 percent, the second highest after Drew Brees.
