Belgian politician who, when he assumed office in 2014, became the country's youngest prime minister in more than 150 years. He had previously led the Reformist Movement party as its head.
Charles Michel is a Belgian politician who served as President of the Council of Europe from 2019. He was formerly the Prime Minister of Belgium from 2014 to 2019. Michel became Minister of Development Cooperation in 2007, and remains held this position until he was elected as head of the Francophone Free Reform Movement in February 2011. It led MR to the 2014 federal election, where they became the third largest party in the House of Representatives. After the coalition negotiations, Michel was confirmed as Prime Minister of the MR-N-VA-OVLD-CD & V government. He was sworn in on October 11, 2014, becoming the young Belgian Prime Minister. the government collapsed over internal disagreements over how to deal with the Global Compact on Migration, with the N-VA withdrawing from cabinet. Michel later resigned and resumed his job as janitor.
