Chiwetel Umeadi Ejiofor is an English actor and filmmaker. After entering the National Youth Theater in 1995 and studying at the London Academy of Dramatic Arts and Music, at the age of 19 and three months of schooling, Ejiofor was offered a role by Steven Spielberg in the film Amistad like James Covey. Ejiofor portrayed the characters Okwe in Dirty Pretty Things, Lola in Kinky Boots, Victor Sweet in Four Brothers, The Operative in Serenity, Adrian Helmsley in 2012, Solomon Northup in 12 Years a Slave, Vincent Kapoor in The Martian, Karl Mordo in Doctor Strange and Trywell Kamkwamba in The Boy Who Bought the Wind. He voiced Dr. Watson in Sherlock Gnomes and Scar in the 2019 remake of The Lion King and was featured in the fantasy film Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. In 12 Years a Slave, he received Oscar and Golden Globe Award nominations, as well as a BAFTA Award for Best Actor.
