Christopher Maurice Brown is an American singer, rapper, musician, dancer and actor. Born in Tappahannock, Virginia, he participated in a church choir and a number of local talent shows from a young age. After signing with Jive Records in 2004, Brown released his debut studio album the following year, which became a dual platinum disc certified by the Recording Industry Association of America. With the first single "Run It!" peaked at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, Brown became the first male artist since 1997 to have the first single to top the chart. His second album Exclusive topped his second Billboard Hot 100 chart "Kiss Kiss". In addition to his solo commercial success, Brown was featured in several hit singles such as "No Air", a duet with vocalist Jordin Sparks. In 2009, Brown pleaded guilty to assaulting his then girlfriend, singer Rihanna.
