About Chris Hadfield
Commander of the Canadian Air Force and the first Canadian to walk in space. He gained a fan base on social media when he posted pictures aboard a space station of the Earth.
Chris Austin Hadfield is an astronaut, engineer, science communicator, singer and former Canadian Space Agency fighter pilot. As the first Canadian to walk in space, Hadfield has performed two Space Shuttle missions and served as Commander of the International Space Station. Prior to his career as an astronaut, Hadfield served in the Canadian Forces for 25 years as a fighter pilot for the Air Force Command. Hadfield was inspired as a child watching the Apollo 11 moon landing on television. He attended Oakville and Milton High School in southern Ontario and earned a roller coaster pilot's license as a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force. After joining the Canadian Armed Forces, he earned an engineering degree from the Royal Military College. He learned to fly a variety of aircraft in the military and eventually became a test pilot, flying several test planes.
