Claire Bloom is an English actress. She is known for starring in plays such as A Streetcar Named Desire, A Doll's House, Long Day's Journey into Night, and has acted nearly 60 films. After a childhood in England and America, Bloom studied theater. She made her debut on the London stage at the age of 16 and quickly took on roles in various Shakespeare plays. They included Hamlet, in which she played the role of Ophelia alongside Richard Burton. As for her Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, critic Kenneth Tynan says she is "the coolest Juliet I have ever seen". After playing Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire, her playwright, Tennessee Williams, said: "I declare myself completely crazy about Claire Bloom". In 1952, Bloom was discovered by Hollywood movie star Charlie Chaplin to co-star with him in Limelight.
