Claudio Ranieri Grande Ufficiale OMRI is an Italian football coach and former player who is currently the head coach of Serie A club Sampdoria. Ranieri began his managerial career in Italy's lower leagues in the late 1980s and made a name for himself in Cagliari, the team he brought from Serie C1 to Serie A in consecutive seasons. He went on to lead Napoli, where he led the team to the UEFA Cup, being sacked the following season. In 1993 he joined Fiorentina and immediately led them to promotion to Serie A, also winning Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana in 1996, before moving to Spain in 1997, to lead Valencia and later Atlético Madrid. . With Valencia, he won the Copa del Rey and UEFA Intertoto Cup, while helping the club to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. In 2000, Ranieri moved to England to work as a head coach at Chelsea.
