Colbert Michael "Cole" Hamels is an American professional baseball pitcher and independent player. He played in Major League Baseball for the Philadelphia Phillies, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves. From San Diego, Calif., Hamels excelled at Rancho Bernardo High School both academically and athletically. Phillies knocked Hamels out of high school in the first round of the 2002 MLB Draft, and he began playing in the Phillies' mini-league system. Many issues, including injuries encountered in a bar fight, among other injuries, arose during Hamels' first minor seasons. When he reached Triple-A, he was the top pitcher in the Philippine mini-league system in 2006. In May 2006, Hamels made his debut in the Phillies League.
