Crystal Gayle is an American country singer and songwriter. She is best known for her 1977 hit, "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue". Gayle's agency and label were initially similar to his older sister, Loretta Lynn. Having found no success with the arrangement after a few years, and with Lynn's encouragement, Gayle decided to try a different approach. She signed a new recording contract and began recording with Nashville producer Allen Reynolds. Gayle's new sound is sometimes referred to as halfway pop or country pop, and is part of the larger musical trend of many 1970s country artists to attract more audiences. Later, Gayle became one of the most successful crossover artists of the 70s and 80s. Her long, heel-shaped hair became synonymous with her name. Gayle began his career in the 1960s as a background singer in the group Lynn. Lynn helped her sign a recording contract with Decca Records in 1970 .
