Cynthia Onyedinmanasu Chinasaokwu Erivo is an English actress, singer and songwriter. She has received a number of awards, including an Emmy, a Tony and a Grammy, as well as being nominated for two Academy Awards. Erivo began acting in theaters in 2011 Umbrellas of Cherbourg and had her first screen role in the British TV series Chewing Gum. She was recognized for starring in the resurgent Broadway play The Color Purple from 2015 to 2017, for which she won the 2016 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical. and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Film Album. She ventured into films in 2018, with roles in the movie Widows Heist and the horror film Bad Times at El Royale. Erivo portrayed the abolitionist Harriet Tubman in the biopic Harriet, receiving an Oscar nomination for Best Actress and Best Original Song. In 2020, Erivo starred in the crime drama The Outsider.
