Damon Albarn is an English musician, singer, songwriter and record producer best known as the lead and lyricist of rock band Blur and co-founder, lead singer, musician and lead musician of the virtual band Gorillaz. Raised in Leytonstone, east London and around Colchester, Essex, Albarn attended Stanway School, where he met guitarist Graham Coxon and formed Blur, releasing his debut album Leisure in 1991. After a long tour of the United States, Albarn's writing was increasingly influenced. British bands from the 1960s. The result was the Blur Modern Life Is Rubbish, Parklife and The Great Escape albums. All three albums were critically acclaimed as Blur gained popularity in the UK, thanks to Britpop's competition with Oasis. Subsequent albums like Blur, 13 and Think Tank incorporated influences from lo-fi, electronic and hip hop music.
