She is the best-selling author and fourth-best-selling novelist of all time, with more than 800 million copies sold. She has written 179 books, including more than 146 novels. Based in California for most of its career, Steel has produced multiple books a year, often launching up to five projects at once. Despite her "lack of critical acclaim", all of her novels are bestsellers, including those published in hardcover. Its formula is quite consistent, often involving wealthy families in crisis, threatened by dark factors such as prisons, fraud, blackmail and suicide. Steel has also published children's novels and poems, as well as fundraisers to deal with mental disorders. His books have been translated into 43 languages, including 22 adapted for television, two of which received Golden Globe nominations.
