He is known for his cinematic roles in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Article of Endearment, Throwing Momma from the Train, Twins, The War of the Roses, Batman Returns, Get Shorty, Matilda, Mars Attacks!, LA Confidential , Man on Moon, Wiener-Dog and Dumbo. He is also known for his voice acting roles in films such as Space Jam, Hercules, The Lorax, and The One and Only Ivan. DeVito and Michael Shamberg founded Jersey Films. Soon after, Stacey Sher became an equal partner. This production company is known for films like Pulp Fiction, Garden State and Freedom Writers. DeVito also owns Jersey Television, where the comedy series Reno 911 !.
