Dennis Carroll is a former Australian football player who played with Sydney Swans in the Victorian Football Federation. He was the last South Melbourne player to retire for Sydney. Hailing from Ganmain, a small town outside of Wagga Wagga, NSW, Carroll comes from a family of footballers. Carroll's dad, Laurie and Uncle Tom also play in the VFL. Carroll was recruited by Swans to the VFL through a zoning rule that would allow Swans to recruit players from New South Wales. His first season was playing out of Lake Oval in Melbourne in 1981, before moving with Swans to Sydney on a permanent basis. Carroll, a full-back, is known as one of the best forwards in the VFL and is able to handle the ball with both feet.
