Derren Brown is an English psychiatrist, illusionist, painter and author. He began performing in 1992, debuted on television with Derren Brown: Mind Control in 2000, and has since produced a number of other programs for both theater and television. His 2006 Something Wicked This Way Comes and his 2012 Svengali show earned him two Laurence Olivier Awards for Best Entertainment. He made his Broadway debut with his 2019 Secret Show. He also writes books for magicians and the public. Brown does not claim to have supernatural powers; on the contrary, his actions are often designed to expose the methods of those making such claims, such as healers and religious means. He often begins live performances by claiming that his results are due to "magic, hints, mentality, wrong direction and choreography".
