Devin Jaymes Gardner is a former American football midfielder. He was signed as an untrained free player by the New England Patriots. Gardner was the starting midfielder for the Michigan Wolverines from 2012 to 2014. At the start of the 2013 season, Gardner received the legendary Michigan jersey from Tom Harmon, becoming the first Michigan player to wear the number 98. in over 70 years. In the first seven games of the 2013 season, Gardner tallied 1,779 passing yards, 660 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns. On October 19, 2013, Gardner broke John Navarre's one-game record in Michigan with 503 passing yards. He also broke Denard Robinson's single record in Michigan for 584 yards. As a high school student, Gardner was ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 1 two-time defenseman in the United States and the No. 5 defenseman in ESPNU. He enrolled at the University of Michigan in January 2010 and was not cleared to play for the 2010 and 2011 seasons.
