She was the past president of the Council of American Fashion Designers, a position she held from 2006 to 2019; in 2014, ranked by Forbes as the 68th most powerful woman in the world; and 2015 was included in Time 100 by Time Magazine, as an icon. In 2016, she received an honorary doctorate from the New School. In 2019, she was inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame.
