Richard Bruce Cheney is an American politician and businessman, having served as the 46th Vice President of the United States from 2001 to 2009 under George W. Bush. He is considered the most powerful vice president in American history. He is also one of America's most unpopular politicians, with an approval rate of only 13% when he leaves office. Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, Cheney grew up there and later in Casper, Wyoming. He studied at Yale and later the University of Wyoming, where he earned a BA and Master degree in political science. He began his political career as a trainee for Senator William A. Steiger, before entering the White House under the Nixon and Ford administrations. He served as Chief of Staff of the White House from 1975 to 1977. In 1978, he was elected to the US House of Representatives and represented Wyoming's Congressional District from 1979 to 1989, serving briefly as way is in the House minority in 1989 .
