Diego da Silva Costa is a professional soccer player who last played as a striker for Spanish club Atlético Madrid and the Spanish national team. Costa started his footballing career in his native Brazil before joining Braga in Portugal in 2006 at the age of 17. He never played for the club but spent time on loan at Penafiel and signed for Atlético Madrid the following year. Over the next two seasons, he was on loan with Braga, Celta Vigo and Albacete. His form helped him move to La Liga club Real Valladolid in 2009, where he spent a season that ended as top scorer, before returning to Atlético Madrid. Costa has struggled to maintain a regular starting spot with Atlético and is spending more time on loan, this time at Rayo Vallecano, where he finishes as the club's top scorer this season. In 2011, Costa returned to Atlético in a more important role. He became a goalscorer and helped the team win a La Liga title, a Copa del Rey title and a UEFA Super Cup.
