About Dolan Ellis

In 1966, he was named Arizona's Official State Balladeer. More than 300 songs about Arizona and the American Southwest were written by him.

Francis Dolan Ellis has been the Official Premier of the State of Arizona since 1966, appointed by ten consecutive Governors. Governor Sam Goddard dated first. Since then, official ballads have been designated in other states. In his role as Balladeer, Dolan wrote more than 300 songs and performed them statewide and in most states of the United States, as well as in twenty foreign countries. As a musician, Ellis is known for his 12-string guitar, southerly voice, songs he wrote and his unique remixes of other songs. He specializes in songs from Arizona and American Southwest, but often returns to his roots as a jazz musician. Dolan pioneered the use of widescreen photography to illustrate his songs.
