At the age of thirteen and a half, she became the youngest American gymnast to ever win an Olympic gold medal.
Dominique Helena Moceanu is a retired American gymnast. She was a member of the US women's gymnastics team that won a gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Moceanu trained with Marta and Béla Károlyi, then Luminița Miscenco and Mary Lee Tracy. She earned first place in the national team at the age of 10 and has represented the United States in various international competitions at a grassroots level. She was an all-powerful gymnast who won a silver medal at the 1992 All-American Youth Games and was the 1994 National Youth Championship. In 1995, at the age of 13, she Become the youngest gymnast to win the senior all-powerful title at the US National Championships. . She was the youngest member of the 1995 World Championship team and the 1996 Olympic gold medal team, and was the last gymnastics athlete to legally compete at the Olympics at the age of 14. Moceanu's last major gymnastics success came at the Sports of Goodwill in 1998, where she became the first American to win an all-powerful gold medal.
