Donna Murphy is an American actress and singer, known for her work in musical theater. After being nominated five times for a Tony Award, she won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical Film twice: for her role as Fosca in Passion and for the role of Anna Leonowens in The King and I. Ruth Sherwood in Wonderful Town, Lotte Lenya in LoveMusik and Bubbie / Raisel in The People in the Picture. Murphy debuted the Broadway stage as a replacement for the musical They were playing our song in 1979. Her other stage credits include off-stage Broadway productions by Song of Singapore and Hello. Again, as well as Bette Midler's replacement as the main character in Hello's Broadway cover, Dolly !. In 1997, she won the Day Emmy Award for Best Actor in a Special Children's Special for her role in Someone Must Be Benny, an episode of the HBO Lifestories: Families in Crisis series.
