Eddie Clarence Murray, nicknamed "Steady Eddie", is a former Major League baseball player and a designated batter. Spending most of his MLB career on the Baltimore Orioles, he's fourth in the team's history in terms of games played and record. Although Murray has never won the Most Valuable Player award, he has made it to the top 10 on multiple occasions for MVP votes. After his competitive career, Murray coached Orioles, Cleveland Indians and Los Angeles Dodgers. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2003. In Bill James's new Baseball History Brief, Murray is described as the fifth best first in the history of major leagues. . He is ranked 77th in the list of 100 best players of The Sporting News.
